This dissertatio is located within the realm of textual studies, which are concered with the study of cohesive devices. The latter form the object of study in the analysis of creative wrtings. This study seeks to trace the use of referent elements in Suleiman El Aissa’s book Diwan El Djazair, i. e. a collection of poems dedicated to Algeria. It also explores how this poet uses these elements so as to reinforce and consolidate the texture of the poems and the connection and interrelatedness between successive stanzas, which could be achieved through different techniques such as pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, and relative pronouns
